"You are a man"
That's all I grew up hearing.
For the pain, the happiness, despair and all the emotions I was allowed or not allowed to feel.
That respect and love only come
When you can "provide"
If you can't then you are gimcrack
Society was really never subtle about this.
Society has shown me that who I am
Is by the heaviness of my pocket
And the line of men who were before me.
Society has woven an idea
That my ranks depend on what I can bring to the "table",
What I can offer through a man's lens.
